 '원더풀라이프' 정원관이 이수만과의 인연을 자랑했다. 9일 유튜브 채널 '송승환의 원더풀라이프'에는 가수 정원관 3화 '수만이형이 우릴 키울 뻔했었죠' 편이 공개됐다. 이날 정원관은 80년대에 클럽 DJ를 하며 200만원, 현재 1000만원 돈을 받았다고 밝혔다. 정원관은 '젊음의 행진' PD 제안으로 당시 인기 있었던 이상원, 김태형과 팀이 되어 소방차를 결성하게 됐다. 정원관은 "처음에는 팀명이 소방차가 아니라 '코스모스 위에 나비 앉았네'였다. 그런데 클럽 사장이 소방차로 바꿨다"고 전했다.

 소방차 멤버 겸 DJ로 활동하던 정원관은 "돈도 잘 벌고, 잘하면서 좋아하는 일 하니까 재미있었다"고 회상했다. 그는 "당시 이수만이 미국에서 돌아와 나이트클럽 DJ를 했다. 매니저(회사)를 찾으면서 수만이형한테 '우리 키우라'고 했더니 '정말 너희 뜬다. 그런데 내가 돈이 없다'고 했다"고 털어놨다. 미국 유학을 마치고 막 돌아온 이수만에게 제작할 투자금이 없었다고. 정원관은 "수만이형이 음악 선진국 보고 와서 얘기 잘 됐고, 우리를 예뻐해 주기도 했다"고 남다른 인연을 드러냈다.

 여러 매니저에게 시도한 뒤 구창모 회사에 입사하게 된 정원관은 "6개월 연습 후 데뷔했다. 우리가 포인트를 다 아니까 안무를 다 짰다. 뭐 마이크 쓰러뜨리고 텀블링도 했는데, 4개월 동안 반응 없었다"고 말했다. 정원관은 "매니저 능력이 좋아서 골든타임에는 다 들어갔는데, 그때 가수들이 이선희 전영록 송골매 이럴 때니까. 언젠가는 되겠지 생각만 했다"고 이야기했다. "스타 된다는 걸 느꼈다"는 정원관은 "'그녀에게 전해주오'에서 '어젯밤 이야기'로 넘어갈 때 터졌다. 어느 날 아파트 앞에 팬들이 몰려와서 맨땅이 안 보이더라. '누구 연예인 사나 봐' 했다"며 미소를 지었다. 김은정 텐아시아 기자 eun@tenasia.co.kr
