 [TV리포트=남금주 기자] 임성훈이 꾸준한 관리를 했다고 밝혔다.
 13일 방송된 tvN '유 퀴즈 온 더 블럭'(이하 '유퀴즈')에서는 임성훈이 등장했다. 
 이날 임성훈이 50년 만에 토크쇼에 처음 출연했다. 임성훈은 장인이란 말에 "전 아직 장인은 아닌 것 같고, 모자라는 부분이 많은 것 같다. 제가 나온 출연 장면을 보고 한 번도 100% 만족한 적 없다"라고 솔직한 답변을 내놓았다. 
 임성훈은 처음 토크쇼에 출연한 이유로 "나중에 현역을 떠나 '라떼는' 얘기를 해야겠다고 생각했다. 그런데 오늘 왜 나왔느냐면 '유퀴즈'를 보면 마음속 얘기를 다 털어놓을 수 있더라"고 고백했다.

 최근 연세대 축제 응원 영상이 화제가 된 임성훈은 "연세대 응원단장으로 노천극장에서 연습했던 게 만 52년 됐더라. 제가 1973년도 응원단장이었다"라고 밝혔다. 76세 나이로 52년 만에 후배들 앞에 선 임성훈은 생목소리와 응원 댄스로 현장을 뜨겁게 달구었다. 임성훈은 "젊을 땐 그 동작이 잘 됐다. 다리가 될지 직전까지 걱정됐는데, 되더라"면서 응원 댄스를 재현했다. 
 임성훈은 체력 관리의 비결에 관해 "방송 다음으로 열심히 했던 게 운동"이라고 밝혔다. 무에타이 10년, 쿵후 15년 정도 했다는 임성훈. 30대 때 전영록과 같이 쿵후를 배우기 시작했다는 임성훈은 "같은 스승한테 쿵후를 배웠다. 전영록 씨도 열심히 하고 잘했다. 지금도 전영록 씨와 통화하면 쿵후 얘기한다. 누가 보면 수준 이하 대화라고 할 거다"라고 밝혔다. 
 유재석은 "지금도 보는데 옆에 이두가 있다"고 놀라기도. 임성훈은 "전 항상 운동할 때 엔도르핀이 솟는다. 옷 갈아입고 글러브를 끼는 순간 눈빛이 변한다고 하더라"고 덧붙였다.

 임성훈은 운동을 시작한 계기로 "아무 죄도 없는데 남한테 매 맞는 게 제일 억울하지 않냐. 체격이 작다고 학교에서 뒤통수를 치고 다녔다. 중학교 1학년 때 집안 상황도 그렇고 풀이 죽어 있었다. 어느 순간 너무 화가 나서 덤볐는데, 원 없이 맞았다"라며 태권도를 배우기 시작했다고 밝혔다. 자신을 괴롭히던 친구에게 통쾌한 복수를 한 임성훈은 "그 이후론 별 싸움을 안 했다"라고 전했다. 
 임성훈은 아나운서로 많이 오해를 받는다고 고백했다. 임성훈은 "응원단장을 하다가 학교를 졸업할 때쯤 TBC 프로듀서한테 연락이 왔다. 각 대학교 명물을 모아서 젊은이들을 위한 프로그램을 만든다고. 열심히 했더니 새 프로그램 MC 권유를 받았다"라며 MC의 길을 걷게 됐다고 밝혔다.
