 [TV리포트=허장원 기자] 대한민국에서 큰 사랑을 받은 할리우드 영화의 리메이크가 확정된 가운데 국민 배우가 출연한다는 소식이 전해지면서 기대감이 커지고 있다. 이 영화의 정체는 바로 '인턴'이다. 배우 최민식 또한 출연을 확정했다.

 지난 2015년 개봉한 영화 '인턴'은 은퇴한 노인과 젊은 여성 CEO의 우정을 다룬 작품이다. 인생 경험이 풍부한 70대 벤 휘태커와 창업 1년 만에 직원 220명을 고용하며 성공 신화를 이룬 스타트업의 열정적인 여성 CEO 줄스 오스틴이 만나면서 벌어지는 이야기를 담았다. 할리우드계에서 레전드 연기파 배우로 손꼽히는 로버트 드 니로가 벤 휘태커를, 앤 해서웨이가 줄스 오스틴을 연기했다.
 개봉 당시에는 역대급 인기를 누렸다. CGV 에그지수 97%, 실관람객 평점 9.07을 기록하는 등 한반도를 열광케 했다. 경쟁작이었던 영화 '인사이드 아웃', '매드 맥스: 분노의 도로' 등을 제치고 역주행을 찍으며 358만 관객을 동원했다. 또 OTT 플랫폼을 통해 공개될 때마다 인기 영화 차트에 오르면서 몇 번을 봐도 또 보고 싶은 '인생 영화'로 남았다.

 최민식은 로버트 드 니로가 연기한 벤 휘태커 역을 맡는다. 최민식은 지난 2010년 CGV 피카다리 1958 '2010년대 명예의 전당 배우'에 선정되기도 했다. 당시 그를 두고 "우리 시대, 가장 뜨거운 얼굴. 주름 하나, 숨소리 하나에도 인생을 담아낸다. 아무리 극단적이고 비현실적인 상황 속의 인물이라도 최민식이 연기하면 마치 어딘가에 꼭 그와 닮은 사람이 살고 있을 것 같은 현실성이 느껴진다"고 평가했다.
 주연작으로는 영화 '넘버3', '쉬리', '올드보이', '친절한 금자씨', '범죄와의 전쟁', '신세계', '명량', '파묘' 등이 있다. 지난 2022년에는 무려 25년 만에 디즈니+ 오리지널 드라마 '카지노'로 컴백, 안방극장에 성공적으로 안착했다. 현재 '카지노'는 MBC를 통해 재방영 중이다.
 해외에서도 인정받았다. 최민식은 1999년 영화 '해피 엔드'로 칸 국제 영화제에 처음으로 초청받았다. 2000년대 들어와서는 '취화선', '올드보이'로 무려 2년 연속 칸 영화제에 가는 경사를 누리기도 했다. 2년 후인 지난 2006년에는 류승완 감독의 '주먹이 운다'로 칸에 가면서 무려 4편이나 칸에 진출하는 진기한 기록을 세웠다.

 최민식 상대역인 줄스 오스틴 역은 배우 한소희가 캐스팅됐다. 한소희는 앤 해서웨이와 비슷한 이미지를 가졌다. 그는 최근 넷플릭스 '경성크리처'로 글로벌 영향력을 입증한 만큼 젊은 여성 CEO 캐릭터에 잘 어우러진다는 평가를 받고 있다.
 일부 매체에 따르면 줄스 오스틴 역에 신민아가 거론됐지만 '코로나19' 여파 등으로 프로젝트가 엎어졌다가 재개된 것으로 보인다.
