 [TV리포트=이혜미 기자] 방송인 백지연이 정신의학과 전문의를 만나 '마음 관리'를 주제로 대화를 나눴다.
 28일 백지연의 유튜브 채널엔 "40대 넘으면 더 필요한 마음 관리"라는 제목으로 정신의학과 교수 김현이 게스트로 나선 영상이 업로드 됐다.
 이날 김 교수는 임상심리학자로서 우울증, 불안장애, 불면증 등을 연구한다며 "내가 지금은 잘 자지만 과거엔 심한 불면증이 있었다. 대학원 입학 과정에서 경쟁이 너무 세고 여러 번의 실패를 겪다 보니 잠을 잘 못 잤다"라고 전했다. "그래서 수면 연구에 관심을 갖게 됐고 지금은 매우 잘 잔다"라는 것이 김 교수의 설명.
 워킹맘으로서 슬하에 두 자녀를 두고 있다는 김 교수는 "솔직히 말하자면 한국 워킹맘보다 미국 워킹맘이 더 외롭고 힘들다고 생각했었다. 난 직장을 선택할 때도 육아가 우선순위였다"라고 털어놨다.
 이어 "지금 뉴저지에 살면서 맨해튼으로 출근을 하는데 그때 차가 막히면 서울보다 심한 교통체증이 생긴다. 그래서 오후 3시에 일찍 회사를 나와 집에서 마무리를 하는 등 유연성 있게 근무를 한다. 그 덕에 아이들을 키울 수 있는 것 같다"라고 했다.
 이날 백지연이 김 교수에게 물은 건 "심리학자면 마음이 아픈 사람을 위해 일을 하고 상담을 하는 것인데 교수님 스스로가 아플 땐 누가 봐주나?"라는 것이다.
 이에 김 교수는 "나도 심리 상담을 받는다. 난 솔직하게 고민을 오픈하는 편"이라고 답했다.
 아울러 "전에는 '전공자니까 알아서 풀 수 있어'라고 생각했는데 실습생 시절 어린 시절의 아픔으로 힘들어하는 상담자를 만난 적이 있다. 그런데 내가 이분 얘기를 들으며 내 걱정을 하고 있는 거다. 그때 나 자신이 채워지지 않으면 안 되겠다는 생각을 하게 됐다"라고 밝혔다.
